Volusia County Agriculturalist is Honored with Florida Farm Bureau’s Distinguished Service Award

Volusia County advocate Billy Hester has been named a recipient of Florida Farm Bureau’s most prestigious honor.

Hester, executive director of Volusia County Farm Bureau was recognized with the state organization’s Distinguished Service Award. Florida Farm Bureau President John L. Hoblick will recognize Hester for this prestigious honor at the Florida Farm Bureau Virtual Annual Meeting on Oct. 22.

Hester was a tireless advocate for the agricultural community. Through his leadership he established the Volusia County Farmers Market to help local farmers sell their produce. Funds from the market are used to support youth activities, scholarships and community service projects.

Hester was a mentor to both young and veteran agriculturists. He coordinated farm tours to help educate visitors on the different commodities grown in Volusia County.

“Billy Hester has spent a lifetime serving agriculture and his community,” Hoblick said. “I am proud to honor Billy with this Distinguished Service Award. He is a mentor and a friend to everyone in agriculture.”
