Overall Food Security Improves in Florida

The USDA’s Economic Research Service’s newly released report on food security, shows improvement in 2021. The study revealed that food insecurity in the United States declined compared to 2020.

Roughly 10.2 percent of the population faces food insecurity, compared to 2020 during the peak of the pandemic, when 10.5 percent of the population faced food insecurity. These numbers were lower in Florida, showing that 9.9 percent of the population is food insecure. The state has reported a downward trend over the last five years.

The data showed that families living in rural areas have a higher rate of food insecurity than those who live in urban areas and families with children or elderly people tend to have a higher rate of food insecurity. View the USDA Report.
