Developing New Dietary Guidelines

June 20, 2019

Officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have appointed 20 nationally recognized experts to serve on the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

This independent advisory Committee will review scientific evidence on topics and questions identified by the departments and will provide a report on their findings.

The committee’s review, along with public and agency comments on their scientific report, will help inform USDA and HHS’ development of the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

A public comment period opened on March 12, 2019 and will remain open until the committee submits its scientific report to the Secretaries of USDA and HHS in 2020. The public is encouraged to submit written comments to the committee on topics relevant to its work.

For more information and to submit comments for the committee’s consideration, visit https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FNS-2019-0001-6698.
