SUMMARY: Provides support to the division Director with policy development and implementation efforts through regulatory and legislative involvement. Works closely with specific advisory committees and have the ability to build strong rapport among members to reach policy objectives. Must have the ability to grasp agricultural related policy initiatives, programs and/or agency rules and communicate those programs to other staff and/or members. Must be capable of working with volunteers to achieve policy goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Manage 3-4 Commodity Advisory Committees
    -Plan semiannual meetings
    -Plan and execute Annual Advisory Commodity Conference for 225 members
    -Prepare minutes
    -Stay current on all issues related to responsible commodities
    -Assist members in developing sound policies
    -Assist with committee member selection
    -Responsible for policy development at FFBF Annual Meeting
  • Oversees agricultural issues related to responsible commodities
  • Disseminate industry news and information to members
  • Assist members with policy implementation on the local, state and federal levels
    -Field to the Hill
    -Tallahassee Days
    -AFBF Issue Advisory Committee Recommendations
  • Day and overnight (20-25 nights) travel and some weekends.
    -FFBF annual meeting, Field to the Hill, Tallahassee Days, AFBF annual meeting, traveling board meeting, various association and commodity
    annual meetings and field days
  • Liaison to UF/IFAS Departments related to responsible commodities
    -UF School of Forestry, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences Advisory Board
    -UF Animal Sciences Department
    -North Central Florida CISMA
    -Natural Resource Leadership Institute
  • Create content and host Ag Policy Webinar Series
  • Represent FFBF at industry meetings, conventions, tradeshows
  • Attend 5-8 County FB annual meetings
  • Assist with the County Action Partnership (CAP) program
  • Serve as a judge for FFBF, FFA, 4-H and other competitions
  • Work across departments to collaborate on events and issues
    -Assist with planning and executing CARES events
    -Assist with FEDPAC fundraising efforts
    -Organize and execute agriculture tours
    -Plan and execute staff retreat when requested
    -Coordinate FFBF Board of Directors traveling meeting
    -Assist with Ag Day at UF and FSU football games
  • Participate in FFBF cross-divisional committees
  • Represent FFB on industry related committees and associations
  • Proficient in all communication including virtual communication, written and verbal (interpersonal and public speaking)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities for an Agricultural Policy staff person:

  • FFBF Internship Program Coordinator
  • Coordinate annual youth outreach partnerships
    -UF/IFAS Florida Youth Institute event
    -FAMU Ag Discovery event

Additional responsibilities related to livestock staff person:

  • Pork Improvement Executive Director
    -Prepare and execute budget
    -Prepare grants
    -Plan, prepare and execute pork promotion events
    -Travel to regional and national pork meetings
  • Lead staff for Livestock Education and Certification for Agriculture Law
    Enforcement (LECALE) program. Continue to support AEST and UF/IFAS
    Animal Sciences Department.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or
university (Agricultural Degree Preferred) with 1 to 3 years related experience or
equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must possess ability to absorb, analyze, and interpret
general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Must possess
necessary computer skills to research, compile and present data in a variety of formats.
Must be capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from a
variety sources. Should have sound verbal, written and virtual communication skills.
Must be capable of developing, preparing and presenting reports to staff, membership or
others on various agricultural related issues. Should have ability to interact with the
media through interviews and written comments.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical business problems and interpret a
variety of instructions and information furnished in written, oral, or other formats. Must
have ability to analyze and interpret legislation, proposed rules and regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of
