The Field to the Hill trip is a component of Florida Farm Bureau Federation’s policy implementation efforts on the federal level. Each year, usually in May, farmers and ranchers from across Florida converge on Washington, D.C. to discuss hot topics affecting agriculture with their Senators and Representatives as well as executive department officials.
In even-numbered years, our Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Group arrives a day early for development and training before joining the other Farm Bureau members.
We encourage every county Farm Bureau to send a representative so that we may have a strong voice and ensure adequate numbers for Congressional visits. Don’t worry if you are a newcomer at our nation’s Capitol. We will help prepare you.
To increase participation, as well as reward county Farm Bureaus that consistently contribute to policy implementation efforts year-round, Florida Farm Bureau provides a cost-share program that pays for one hotel room for the two nights of the fly-in. That’s more than a $600 value!
Please contact your county Farm Bureau or Florida Farm Bureau’s National Affairs Coordinator if you would like to participate.
Dates for 2015 Field to the Hill will be set by mid-January. It is likely to be the 2nd or 3rd week of May, after the state Legislative Session ends. Generally, attendees arrive around noon on a Tuesday when the House is in Session and depart about noon on Thursday. Online registration will open in early February 2015.
Thank you for your help in presenting agriculture’s voice in Washington. We look forward to seeing you there.
