Activities

The Florida Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee participates in many activities and programs in order to present Farm Bureau and agriculture in the best light. Here are some activities we participate in and some suggestions on how to get involved.

Legislative Activities

What you can do:

  • Surface issues for consideration by county Farm Bureau boards.
  • Serve on county Farm Bureau Boards or sub committees
  • Serve on a state advisory committee
  • Participate in FFBF annual meeting and speak on the resolutions
  • Volunteer to serve as voting delegate.

Political Education

What you can do:

  • Attend Farm Bureau Political Forums and educational events.
  • Attend Florida Farm Bureau women's conference
  • Participate in “get out the vote” activities
  • Encourage individual participation in campaigns and in a political party

Policy Implementation

What you can do:

  • Participate in Farm Bureau's Washington Tour each spring.
  • Attend Florida Farm Bureau Day activities at the State Capitol.
  • Attend local and district political events
  • Volunteer to testify on particular issues before local, state and national officials.
  • Communicate regularly on issues and legislation with local governmental officials, state legislators, congressmen and U.S. senators

Membership

For Florida agriculture to continue to be a productive and profitable industry, it must continue to have a strong and influential organization to voice its concerns and issues. Farm Bureau is only as strong as the leadership and involvement of its membership. We invite you to help us recruit new members.

What you can do:

  • Serve on local membership committee
  • Assist in gaining and maintaining producer members by participating in membership drives
  • Become familiar with the Farm Bureau structure, programs and services
  • Encourage folks to attend the FFB Convention and other conferences

Youth

What you can do:

  • Encourage enrollment in vocational agriculture programs, FFA, 4-H and other related youth organizations
  • Work to promote Ag in the Classroom by offering farm visits, volunteering to speak to classes and providing monetary contributions
  • Attend Florida Ag in the Classroom Volunteer Conference
  • Initiate AITC AgVenture Programs
  • Develop a local mini grant program for teachers
  • Offer a scholarships for children to attend 4-H or FFA camp
  • Support the Youth Speech Contest
    Each year the Florida Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee sponsors a Youth Speech Contest starting at the county level. The winner of the county contest competes in a district contest; the district winner then goes to the Florida Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting to compete in the state competition with the other seven district winners

Public Relations

What you can do:

  • Participate in Farm-City Week scheduled for November 15-22, 2007. The Farm City Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the linkages between farm families and urban residents, providing local organizations with educational programs and materials about the people who grow their food
  • Food Check out Day- The national Food Check-Out Week event recognizes the farmer's contribution to the affordability of food in the United States. The event is held annually on the day of the year, when, on average, Americans have earned enough income to pay for their yearly food supply. This is celebrated Feb. 4-11.
  • Serve county promotions committees
  • Work to publicize Farm Bureau activities and issues in county newspapers and county Farm Bureau newsletters
  • Develop or assist with a booth at both county and state fairs or festivals promoting Farm Bureau, agriculture in general, and local commodities
  • Publicize local AITC mini grant programs and/or contributions to your local community
