Union County farmer named to Florida Farm Bureau board

Ed Shadd of Union County has been named to the board of directors of the Florida Farm Bureau Federation.

Shadd, a diversified timber, cattle and hog farmer from Raiford, was elected to represent District 8, which includes Alachua, Bradford and Union counties.  Shadd was an assistant director of Field Services for the Florida Farm Bureau Federation for 36 years until his retirement in 2003.

Shadd was named to the seat that had been held by the late Myron Bryan of Alachua. Florida Farm Bureau’s board has 19 elected volunteer members who represent counties throughout the state. These volunteer leaders serve two-year terms and they are typically elected in district caucuses at the Florida Farm Bureau annual meeting in October.

The Florida Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general-interest agricultural association with about 140,000 member-families statewide. Headquartered in Gainesville, the Federation is an independent, nonprofit agricultural organization.
