Farm Bureau members recognized by UF

The University of Florida’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) has recognized Farm Bureau members for their service to the university, agriculture and natural resource management.

Bradford County Extension Agent James T. DeValerio of Bradford County and Suwannee County Extension Agent Brian Estevez have been named recipients of the Horizon Award. DeValerio specializes in agriculture and community resource development. Estevez has been instrumental in creating new summer day camps and developing award-winning youth programs.

Richard Barber of Marion County and Wayne H. Smith of Alachua County have received the CALS Alumni and Friends Award of Distinction. Barber produces peanuts, watermelons and beef cattle. Smith is a former director of the UF/IFAS School of Forest Resources and Conservation.

The university announced the awards in early October.
