Four young agriculturists will advance to Florida Farm Bureau’s statewide Florida Farm Bureau’s Discussion Meet competition after collectively developing solutions to real life challenges facing agriculture.

Preliminary and semi-final discussion meet rounds were held at the Young Farmers and Ranchers State Leadership Conference in St. Augustine, July 13-15.

Candace Munz of Leon County, Brian Norris of Charlotte County, Jared Smith of Putnam/ St. Johns County and Zachary Sweat of Collier County will compete at the final competition round at the 2018 Florida Farm Bureau State Annual Meeting, Oct. 24-26, in St. Augustine.

The Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition involves the exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. The judges look for contestants who offer constructive criticism, cooperation and communication while analyzing problems and developing solutions.

The winner of the state competition will receive a $500 cash award, a John Deere XUV 560E courtesy of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Company and an expense-paid trip to the 2019 American Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans where the winner will represent Florida in the national Discussion Meet competition, Jan. 14-16.
