(Gainesville, Fla.) – Greg Griffin, a Certified Crop Advisor for Douglas Fertilizer & Chemical, Inc. in East Palatka, is the 2007 winner of the Florida Excellence in Crop Advising Award sponsored by the Florida Certified Crop Adviser Program and the Florida Farm Bureau Federation. As Florida’s Certified Crop Adviser of the Year, Griffin received a plaque and a $500 cash award at the Florida Farm Bureau annual meeting October 10-12 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Ocean Walk Village.
He was nominated by Armando Campos of Maitland.
“Greg is deserving of the Excellence in Crop Advising Award because of his unwavering commitment to the service of his customers advising them with the best possible information available with their best interests always in mind,” Campos said. “The defining quality of a CCA is integrity and the trust and credibility that it generates. Greg has been a solid advisor for many years to many farmers in his area who attribute a great measure of their success or improved results to following his advice. Greg is an advocate of the CCA program, explaining to anyone who will listen the importance of seeking proper agronomic advice and making a distinct contrast between the correct agronomical practices and decisions and the dangers of the disregard to these principles.”
Certified Crop Advisers assist producers in making decisions that are agronomically, economically and environmentally sound. To be certified, advisers must pass two comprehensive written examinations, meet professional and educational standards set by the American Society of Agronomy and maintain their certification through continuing education. They must also sign a code of ethics pledging to work in the best interest of their client. Together, a farmer and a CCA make a team that works to put good management practices to work on the farm.
