Teachers honored by Ag in the Classroom

Teachers honored by Ag in the Classroom

This week I am pleased to congratulate Brent Douglas, a former Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher, as one of three teachers who received Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Awards from Florida Ag in the Classroom for 2008. Brent was one of two teachers who received the award for the middle school agriscience category. Here's a link to a newspaper article about Brent.

In addition, Cherith Davenport, a teacher at Archer Community School near Gainesville, won the award for the elementary school division and the overall award for Florida. She goes on to compete for the National Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award for Florida. We should hear any day whether or not she received one of the five national awards.

Also, Susan Carpenter, an agriscience teacher for Mulrennan Middle School in Tampa, received the second middle school agriscience award from Florida Ag in the Classroom.

Congratulations to all three outstanding teachers! Their work in the classroom educates young Floridians about agriculture.

Mrs. Davenport

My son has been in Mrs. Davenport's science class for the past several years. She is a wonderful, interesting teacher. You should see her classroom. All kinds of stimulating projects are everywhere! Go Mrs. Davenport. Good luck and congratulations!!!!
